This site was built in the early 19th century to protect British merchant ships from French attacks during the Napoleonic Wars. You can explore the tower and the battery, which are rare and well-preserved examples of coastal defences.

You can also see how the soldiers lived in the barracks, with authentic furniture and memorabilia. You can enjoy stunning views of Longhope Sound and Scapa Flow, and spot some of the local birds.
