Cader Idris is a mountain in southern Snowdonia, Wales, with a height of 893 metres (2,930 feet). It is one of the most popular mountains in Wales for walkers and hikers, who can choose from three different routes to reach the summit.
The mountain is composed of sedimentary and igneous rocks of Ordovician age, and has glacial features such as lakes and moraines. The name Cader Idris means 'Idris's Chair' and may refer to a giant or a 7th-century prince who fought a battle there.
According to legend, anyone who sleeps on the mountain will become mad or a poet. The mountain offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and coast, and is home to various wildlife and plants.
