More Information

Moorlands Nature Reserve is a beautiful small woodland with a spectacular collection of rhododendrons and azaleas. It is located just 5.5 miles from York city centre and is free to visit. The reserve is open all year round, but the best time to visit is during spring when the rhododendrons are in bloom.

There are a number of things to see and do at Moorlands Nature Reserve, including:

  • A family explorer trail with wooden sculptures
  • A treehouse
  • A toadstool circle for picnics
  • A variety of bird and mammal species
  • A carpet of snowdrops, bluebells, primroses, and wood sorrel in spring

The reserve is accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs, and there is limited roadside parking available. Dogs are not permitted at the reserve.

Moorlands Nature Reserve is a great place to enjoy the outdoors and learn about nature. It is a popular spot for families, and it is also a good place for bird watching and photography.
