More Information

If you love history, you will be amazed by the wonders of Kinneil Estate. You can discover its hidden secrets by downloading the new Heritage Trail leaflet and enjoying a fun-filled adventure with your family in the park. You can also find a copy of the leaflet in Kinneil Museum. Our talented volunteer photographer Oscar has also created this fascinating quiz sheet for you to test your knowledge of the site if you are a frequent visitor, or to explore and appreciate the park if you are new to the area.

Kinneil Museum is housed in the 17th century stable building of Kinneil House. The ground floor features an exhibition that tells the story of Bo'ness town, which was built on Roman ruins. The upper floor gallery serves as an interpretation centre for Kinneil Estate, where you can learn about Kinneil House, built by the Dukes of Hamilton, and its connections with famous names from Scottish history, such as Mary Queen of Scots and James Watt.

Kinneil Estate is rich in history, containing part of the Antonine Wall World Heritage Site and one of its fortlets, the site of the abandoned Kinneil medieval village, where only a ruined church remains, and a section of the John Muir Way, opened in 2014.
