Explore, engage and embrace at Ferne Animal Sanctuary. For over eighty years, during which time approximately 40,000 animals have been cared for, animal welfare has been our key charitable purpose. Started in 1939 by the late Nina Duchess of Hamilton & Brandon. The Duchess realised that, at the time, many service men and women would be leaving for duty and would be unable to take their pets with them, and so the story began! All proceeds from entry goes towards the continuous care of our 300 animals. We are always pleased to see people – both first time visitors and regulars who come to enjoy the sanctuary. Ferne is a place that people come when they want peace and quiet. Unlike many visitor attractions we cherish the opportunity to allow people to escape from the day-to-day noise and bustle and to enjoy the wonderful Somerset countryside. Dogs are welcome to join you on a lovely walk, but please note they have to be on a lead. We have an onsite cafe, Nina's, that serves locally sourced produce and fantastic home baked goods. There is a selection of delicious cakes, daily specials and tasty meals to be enjoyed. Nina's is dog friendly and also has a small children's play room. We have dedicated activity officers who you'll find in our arts and crafts room, Creative Corner. From making hedgehog houses, constructing enrichment boxes to colouring, with themed activities throughout the year - animal welfare education through arts and crafts. Guided tours are bookable in advance to get a closer look at our animals and the work of the sanctuary through our website along with general day passes. Guided tours are ran by one of our animal care experts and can be expected to last around two hours. End the journey at Ferne through our pet supplies shop, competitively priced dog, cat and small animal food, toys and supplies, with much more in-between! We look forward to welcoming you!
