The Eastgate Clock is one of the most iconic landmarks in Chester, and the second most photographed clock in England after Big Ben. It stands on top of the Eastgate, the original entrance to the Roman fortress of Deva Victrix, which later became the medieval city of Chester.
The clock was built in 1899 to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. It was designed by the local architect John Douglas, who also designed many other buildings in Chester. The clock has a copper dome and four clock faces, each with Roman numerals. It is supported by iron pillars decorated with leaves and flowers.
The clock is a popular attraction for visitors and locals alike, who can walk along the city walls and enjoy the views of the city centre and the River Dee. The clock is also a symbol of Chester's rich and varied history, from Roman times to the Victorian era.
