Little Play Town Heywood is a safe haven where children of all ages and capabilities take on the roles of inspirational key workers, drive around a mini race track or become a superstar on stage. With more than 10 themed areas to pique every child’s curiosity, this impressive role-play facility spans over a huge two storeys.
Tucked away in the shadow of St Luke’s towering church spire, just a stone’s throw away from Heywood market and right in the heart of the old mill town, you’ll discover this hidden gem. Step inside and immediately you leave behind the hustle and bustle of the thriving main street as you’re transported into the centre of a child’s dream.
At Little Play Town Heywood, children have the opportunity to learn about their real-life environment and it is easy to see why this place is so popular with parents, has become a hive for childminders, and offers packages for parties and educational visits. The friendly staff greet you with a smile and take your little ones' coats and shoes, just one of many personal touches that Jackie and the team have implemented to make you instantly feel at home.
The ground floor consists of a large supermarket, with packed shelves, a conveyor belt, and a till. Children practice taking turns scanning barcodes and mimicking contactless payments or pushing the mini trollies and filling them with a variety of familiar items for the weekly ‘big shop.’ Budding chefs can rustle up some smoothies or fish and chips in the cafe, or hit the BBQ in the camping area that is complete with a camper van and teepee. And even if it’s raining, experience the great outdoors by chilling out on the fake grass. There’s also a life-sized builder’s yard with soft bricks and wheelbarrows, a police station, a hospital, and a post office all equipped with authentic costumes and props. These areas, like all areas throughout Little Play Town, promote the importance of role-play and imagination-led learning. Every child has the opportunity to switch between multiple different roles with different responsibilities, refine vital developmental and social skills and build healthy relationships with old or new-found friends. Upstairs parents take a well-earned break in the ‘real’ cafe, well stocked with tasty snacks and hot and cold refreshments. On this floor children zoom around the indoor race track on a selection of bikes, trikes, and even horses, visit the vets or transform into a Broadway legend. There’s even a cosy corner to snuggle in an armchair and enjoy a story book. Children can fully immerse themselves in the space at their own pace and move leisurely between areas of their choice
Advance booking during peak times is advisable due to limited spaces per session to maintain that homely feel and prevent overcrowding. .
